In 1965 Gordon Dando had the rare opportunity of taking a footplate ride over the Somerset & Dorset from Bath Green Park to Templecombe & back. The cine film he took during the journey is here coupled with views taken from the carriage window and numerous lineside shots to provide a unique picture f the northern sections of the S & D.
Despite the imminent closure of the Somerset & Dorset a wide variety of locomotives is seen working both passenger and goods trains.
Having completed the journey the DVD then takes a look at the branch from Evercreech Junction to Highbridge. Each of the stations on the line is featured whilst some poignant shots at the end of the end show reently abandoned track bed at Burnham on Sea.
The DVD is accompanied by a brief commentary giving details of the trains and locations seen. With over 45 minutes of superb colour cine film and authentic sound from the archives of Peter Handford, this is as close to experiencing a journey over the S & D as you are likely to get over 40 years after the closure of the line.

A NOTE ABOUT "NOT NEW OR LIKE NEW CONDITION" These are DVDs that are no longer available from the publisher, either by their retirement (usually), they have ceased trading or sadly for other reasons. It struck me as a little sad that they would never be available again. So I decided to something about it. These DVDs have been previously sold either by me or others. The customers (or their estate) have wished to dispose of part or all of their collection.
Unlike all other DVDs on my website, they are *mostly
NOT NEW . Some call them "pre-loved" or "second hand" :-)
*IMPORTANT: They also include DVDs that have been obtained from bankrupt stock and auction sites including those online. Some of these DVDs are actually really brand
NEW . They are unsold stock that has been returned by a trade reseller or supplier because they had excess stock, went bankrupt or ceased trading. They've never been sold retail. So they are really new but technically they are not new! Each DVD has been tested to see that it still plays correctly, and is free from surface scratches that might affect playback. I have checked the condition of the sleeve insert. I usually replace the case with a new clear case. I have never liked black cases! And just like almost ALL new transport DVDs, they won't be sealed inside a plastic use-once wrapper. Effectively, each DVD has been "reconditioned" to be in a
"LIKE NEW" condition.
I only keep very limited stocks of these
"NOT NEW or LIKE NEW" DVDs but usually try to keep at least 1 to 2 in stock especially if it has been a popular DVD in the past and more so if it one of those that I personally like. However if you order one and I don't have stock then I will try to obtain a copy for you. Please note this could take weeks until I find a source. If I can't obtain a copy then I will let you know. Unlike some others, there is no extra charge for this service.
